Please support the important work of the Senior Center by making a donation today.

Your generosity funds many important programs. Your contribution makes a real difference in the quality of life for local seniors. There are many ways to make a donation to the Senior Center.

  • You may make an unrestricted gift: These contributions allow the Senior Center to use your donation where it is needed most. Unrestricted gifts allow us to continually enhance our programs.
  • You may make a designated or restricted gift: These contributions can be designated by the donor for a particular Senior Center program like RIDES.
  • You may make your donation, either restricted or unrestricted, in honor or memory of a special person in your life.

1. Donate Now!

2. Make A Pledge!

We ask for your intention of what you would like to contribute over one to five years. We will record your pledge and each year you will receive a reminder of what you have indicated. The pledge is not legally binding.

3. Make A Charitable Bequest

We welcome a charitable bequest provision in which you designate the Senior Center in your Last Will and Testament or Trust Agreement.

Planned giving is the process through which donors leave a charitable bequest through their will or other method of estate planning to a favorite cause. Sometimes charitable bequests on behalf of an estate can work to the benefit of the estates primary beneficiaries courtesy of the current tax laws and is a wonderful way to provide a pre-planned gift. You should consult with your tax advisor or financial planner or a CPA to thoroughly understand all the details, but a wealth of information about the process is contained at the following web site: leavealegacy.org.  If you are interested in leaving a planned gift through your estate, know that the Senior Center accepts gifts in the form of legacies. For more information, please call our office at (757) 259-4193.

 Why support the Senior Center?

All human beings, regardless of age, need social interaction. We thrive on the bonds that we build with each other. Unfortunately, among the senior population, depression and declining health are often caused by the lack of social connections.

According to "Aging in the Shadows: A Public Forum on Senior Isolation," the problem will become more prevalent as the baby boomers age. This group will compose the largest cohort of seniors ever, and these citizens are more at risk for social isolation than their parents. The report emphasizes the need for communities to establish social programs which combat isolation. "As the senior population of the United States swells, and as the movement to assist elderly people to "age in place" gathers momentum, the issue of senior isolation becomes increasingly important."

The Historic Triangle Senior Center is a natural entry point into the aging network for hundreds of seniors each year. We play a vital role in the continuum of health care and serve as a first defense against premature institutionalization and hospitalization. The Administration on Aging acknowledges that Senior Centers play a vital role in helping older Americans move into the next chapter of their lives by bridging the gap between work and retirement.

The Senior Center offers social and recreational opportunities which combat isolation and promote good health among seniors. Studies have shown that continual social contact not only contributes to good health, but also increases overall life expectancy.  In addition, the Senior Center offers opportunities for lifelong learning, creative arts, and intellectual stimulation. According to the Alzheimer's Association, seniors who continue to learn new skills as they age are less likely to develop dementia.

HTSC is the only senior center which serves the Historic Triangle and no fees are charged for using the lounge. Small fees are charged for trips and computer classes and scholarships are available on a sliding scale. We served 700 clients last year and 82% of our seniors reported an improvement in health and overall well-being, as well as an improvement in social connections and intellectual stimulation.

The senior population in our area is growing rapdily.  Therefore, the Board of Directors has founded the Senior Center Society to help ensure that we will be able to meet the needs of our senior citizens. Each year, individuals will be recognized in our newsletters and annual report according to their cumulative donations.  Please join today.
